“To your offspring I will give this land.” -God

"All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever." -God

This section of the story shows the roots of the great divisions between Israel and Palestine regarding land. The land – called “the promised land” in the bible, or Canaan, is the land that God is talking about here. God promises to give this land to Abraham and his descendants when he moves from Haran into what we know as Palestine. This area with desert to the east and the Mediterranean sea to the west and Egypt and the Sanai Peninsula to the South and Syria to the North is a land upon which blood would be spilt for generations.

When you hear Palestinians saying that this is their land, they are referring to the habitation of their people in this land before Abram arrived, and as well before the land is taken later by the Israelites lead by Joshua in The Story chapter 7, or the book of Joshua. The land was taken by force, and many were killed. This battle between the Israelites and the Palestinians is at least 4000 years old. The Palestinians did inhabit this land. And God did give the land over to the Israelites. Hence the difficulty.
