One of our missions partners is Compassion International. Compassion's mission is to release children from poverty in Jesus' name. We're a part of the Compassion Church2Church project, which seeks to partner a church here in the US with a church overseas in a partnership that seeks to make a Kingdom impact in the lives of children. Our partnership is with Hawassa Full Gospel Believers’ Church in Hawassa, Ethiopia. It was was established in 1989 with persecuted members from the nearby villages in late 70’s. At present, the church owns a building and has 2500 members, out of which 1500 are adults and about 1000 are children. The church has a primary school in the town to contribute for the community and to promote child ministry in the area. Currently, the school provides secular education for about 450 children out of which 175 are Compassion assisted children. The local Church is lead by a team of pastors and church elders who officially represent her.
There are three core programs that you can be involved in the work of Compassion with our partner church:
- The Child Survival Program helps save the lives of babies and mothers in poverty utilizing local churches to assist mothers of at-risk infants and toddlers. Mothers can give their children a fighting chance for healthy development with the supplies and training provided by your donations. Your donation will supply:
- Prenatal care
- Nutritious food and supplements
- Ongoing health care
- Infant survival training for mothers
- Spiritual guidance and education
- The loving support of a local church
- Child Sponsorship - for $38/ month, you can sponsor a child in the local community who is connected with the partner church. The church cares for and provides education and other opportunities to these children to help with health, food, education, and spiritual formation.
- Leadership Development Program - for $300/ month
Compassion's core programs (above), while wide-ranging, cannot tackle all the obstacles to healthy development in the lives of Compassion-assisted children. That's why Compassion meets critical needs through our Complementary Interventions. These include specific medical interventions, disaster relief, water treatments projects, and more. These are one-time gifts that help with specific needs in specific instances.
We are planning trips to Hawassa to build relationships with the church. If you are interested in being involved in this partnership, please let us know. For more information on how to sponsor a child, join our missions team, or support any of the other programs above, stop by Connecting Point.
